2024 Southport Air Show Leaves Crowds Awestruck
Sefton’s bumper summer of fun continued this weekend with packed out crowds being awestruck by the 2024 Southport Air Show.
Displays from the Red Arrows, Black Cats, Spitfire and many more thundered through the skies above Southport Beach on both Saturday July 13th and Sunday July 14th.
The brainchild of Sefton Council, the annual show has wowed crowds for more than thirty years and is now synonymous with the resort and a major factor in the success of the Borough’s visitor economy.
On average the Local Authority spends £400,000 per year to ensure the Southport Air Show can take place.
Thanks to months of hard work and planning by Sefton Council’s Tourism team, the 2024 show proved incredibly popular with thousands of spectators.
Cllr Paulette Lappin, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Skills said: “Our expert Tourism team work incredibly hard to ensure guaranteed entertainment for tens of thousands of visitors each year and I am delighted that this weekend was such a success.
“Lots of work went into taking on board and adapting to feedback from previous years and we are extremely pleased that our many visitors had such a wonderful time.
“Being such a unique show over the resort’s beach, not only are our aerial displays some of the very best in the UK but we also have a wealth of extended facilities and fantastic ground-level entertainment."
Sefton’s Tourism team will have no time to rest however and their attentions now turn to planning the British Musical Fireworks Championship, which takes place September 20thand September 21st.
