AFC Telford United 2 Southport 2
It ends all square at Telford after a much improved second half display from The Sandgrounders.
It started badly with a goal against in the fourth minute and only a couple of very good stops from Chris Renshaw in the Southport goal kept the scoreline down to one at half time. Southport only had one real chance to pull the scores level in the first period.
The second half was a different story with both sides going all out in a pulsating opening 20 minutes. Southport came out with real intent and even before the goal they had created tow good chances.
The first goal came when Sonny Hilton made space down the left and found Malakai Mckenzie in plenty of space and he curled a shot into the top corner. The ‘keeper got a hand to it but couuldn’t keep it out of the net 1-1 and Southport on top.
It was no surprise when the second goal came and it was debutant Chris Sze who finished from a tight angle inside the ‘keepers near post.
Unfortunately the lead only lasted three minutes. A penalty went to the home side after a push in the box from a corner, Chris Renshaw saved the pen but the rebound fell straight back to the taker Stenson who made no mistake.
After that either side could have gone on and won it but over the whole 90 minutes nobody could really argue that sharing the points was the fairest result.
