Amended Timetable for The Randox Grand National 2025 Festival

A special timetable will be in place for The Randox Grand National 2025 Festival, with a seven-and-a-half-minute service running between Liverpool City Centre and Aintree station before and after the races, on each day of the festival.

Trains on our Northern lines will run to a slightly amended timetable to provide the best possible service to those attending the iconic event.

The highlights are:

Aintree Train Times

A seven-and-a-half-minute service will operate between Aintree and Liverpool Central/Moorfields stations at the following times:

  • Liverpool City Centre to Aintree, from approximately 10:00 – 13:00 (before the races).

  • Aintree to Liverpool City Centre, from approximately 16:30 – 20:30 (after the races.

Ormskirk Line

Trains will run to an amended timetable; arrival and departure times will be slightly different to the normal timetable.

To allow the Grand National timetable to operate, Aughton Park and Town Green stations will have a 30-minute service from Thursday to Saturday.

Please note:during the three days of The Grand National Festival, there won’t be direct services between Ormskirk and Hunts Cross. Customers travelling between the stations are advised to change trains at Moorfields station.

Southport & Hunts Cross Lines

Trains will run to an amended timetable; arrival and departure times will be slightly different to the normal timetable.

Please noteduring the three days of The Grand National Festival trains will run between Southport and Hunts Cross.

Headbolt Lane Line

Between 10:00 and 13:00 and between 16:30 and 20:30, services will start and terminate at Sandhills.

Customers for Moorfields or Liverpool Central, or those making the return journey to Rice Lane, Fazakerley, Kirkby, or Headbolt Lane are advised to use Southport or Ormskirk services and change at Sandhills during these times. 

Wirral Line

Customers travelling to the races from any Wirral line stations are advised to change at Moorfields for an Aintree-bound train.

Travel Advice

Customers can find the latest departure times by using the journey planner, or speak to a staff member at your local staffed station for assistance.

Customers are strongly advised to buy tickets in advance to help reduce queuing time on the day.

These can be bought from any staffed Merseyrail station, or a Day Saver can be purchasedHEREand emailed directly to you.

Any tickets bought via Trainline.com or any other train operating companies’ websites must be printed at a Merseyrail ticket office before travel.

A range of entertainment is planned to welcome those using the rail network to attend this exciting event in the City Region’s calendar with some surprises in store. As always, Merseyrail staff will be there handing out their famous flip-flops to anyone with sore feet after a long day at the races.
