Are Sefton Council Leaders living in a Parallel Universe? Lib Dem Leader Questions

Not content with putting down a motion to this week’s Sefton Council meeting congratulating their government, Sefton’s 9 strong ruling Labour Cabinet -the decision makers in Sefton - have put down another motion congratulating themselves. The motions are moved by the Leader and Deputy Leader of Labour controlled Sefton Council.
Lib Dem opposition leader John Pugh, suggests they might be living in a parallel universe.
“Quite apart from the basic point that we are all brought up not to brag or boast, there does not seem to be a proper recognition that locally and nationally things aren’t going all that well or giving much to boast about,” he says.
"The Council may be a tad more popular than the government, but that’s setting a pretty low benchmark. Kier Starmer’s government is polling at historic lows.
We are far better spending important council time sorting out issues that affect residents, than watching the current administration engaging in back slapping and high-fiving. As with any council, there are achievements and failures but you don't want to make blowing your own trumpet the one thing you are really good at. It’s a pointless misuse of council time and resources. Filling potholes is far more important than filling council agendas with self-congratulatory tribal nonsense."
"To be fair, one of the Labour motions does share some credit with Sefton staff, but it is annoying that in connection with some modest progress on the Southport Pier restoration, every Labour politician within hailing distance is thanked in the motion, but not the Southport public and campaigners who have stuck by the Pier through thick and thin. If the public hadn’t made such a fuss and demanded action, it would have been all too tempting for this Council to consign it to the scrapyard as has happened in other coastal resorts”.
