Birkdale Campaigner in Southport. Green Bin Collection fiasco

Birkdale Campaigner  Green Bin Collection

Birkdale’s Lee Durkin has chosen to clarify the status of the existing Green Bin Collections, which he believes has been hijacked by local elected Officials across Southport, which may endanger existing free Green Bin Collections if the Local Authority is criticised for something out of its control.

Mr. Durkin said: “The reason for the recent missed Bin Collection is due to the fact that refuse staff are contracted to work 39 Mondays per calendar year, falling between March 1st to November 30th. The way that the Mondays have fallen this year 2021 meant that the 39th Monday occurred on 22nd November. The Council Officers indicated that they could not cover the additional Monday to take it up to 29th November.”

He added: “Whilst I can emphasize with residents about this missed collection, I would like to enquire why existing local Councilors from the Liberal Democrats are attacking the council and now gaslighting when we are approaching Local Elections?”

“As a local resident myself and someone who continues to want to improve the area with the resources that I have, I wouldn’t want my own efforts to secure additional Green bin collection dates to be thwarted by a minority who are just exploiting a situation for pure political capital .Southport has many green fingered residents who would support extended collections but after this point scoring by the Liberal democrats we may never see it happen.”

“Irrespective of who is to blame, we should be seeking to resolve problems and not creating panic and pandemonium given the fact there are far more serious issues currently happening.”
