Blackpool FC Defender Joins Southport on One-Month Loan

A warm welcome to Blackpool FC defender Will Squires, who joins us on a one-month loan.

Will is 19. He signed a professional contract with Blackpool in May 2022.

He was part of the successful under-18s side that lifted the Lancashire FA Pro-Youth Cup in 2022 and made 44 appearances for the youth team in the 2021/22 campaign.

Will has been with Blackpool since the age of nine and progressed through the Academy.

A move to Southport will give Will some good experience in mens football and prove beneficial to both the club and Will’s development.

At training on Thursday Will said “‘I’m delighted to be here. It’s been quite a while since I was last out on loan so happy to get back out on loan again.’

‘I was on loan at Bamber Bridge earlier in the season, which was a good challenge and I’m happy to go up another level and hopefully Southport can help me with that progress.’

Talking on stepping up to senior football… ‘I’ve played academy football since I was 9, played U23s last year and going on loan this year playing men’s football is totally different, but I feel like I need it.’
