A Formby man has been charged after police activity in north Liverpool led to 12 arrests, 70 stop searches and the seizure of weapons including a machete and axe. Michael Sands, 38, faces cannabis possession and failing to provide a specimen charges, and has been bailed for a November court appearance.

02 TransportSouthport line suspended between Southport and Hall Road after Freshfield incident
Services between Southport and Hall Road were suspended on August 22 after reports of a person being hit by a train at Freshfield. Merseyrail requested replacement buses, while valid tickets were accepted on selected bus and Northern train services. Passengers were advised to check updates, allow extra time and consider alternatives.

Children’s entertainer Justin Fletcher attracted full crowds for both performances at Southport Flower Show’s Garden Theatre on Sunday. His family routine was held at 11am and 1pm on the final day of the four-day event, which ran at Victoria Park from Thursday, August 20, to Sunday, August 23.

Southport secured their first points of the National League North season with a 4-1 home victory over Bedford Town. Luke Burgess scored twice, including the club’s 4,000th non-league goal, while Jordan Slew and Teddy Lavelle also found the net. The attendance at Haig Avenue was 1,250.
