Chief Executive Expresses Pride and Support for LGBTQ+ Community in Sefton

"As Sefton Council's Chief Executive, I am truly proud to celebrate Pride Month with our colleagues and residents.

Sefton is a diverse Borough and it’s important that as a Council we are always listening to the needs and wishes of every one of our residents, and colleagues to create a place where everyone feels valued and respected, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Our commitment to inclusion is outlined in the Council’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy.  It acknowledges the important role that we play not only as an employer and provider of services, but also as a place leader.

Pride Month is about celebration, but it’s also about so much more. This is a time to reflect on the resilience and strength of our LGBTQ+ community.  During Pride Month, we are reminded of the progress that has been made towards equality, as well as the work that still lies ahead.

Events such as Sefton Pride, which takes place in the middle of the month, as well as Liverpool Pride in July, are an opportunity to celebrate this progress and amplify the voices of the LGBTQ+ community. But there are many other ways, including taking advantage of the wide range of books available in our libraries, including this month’s featured book, Pride: The Unlikely Story of the True Heroes of the Miners Strike by Tim Tate.

Only by working together and listening to one another can we create a Borough for everyone.

Happy Pride Month!"
