Coastguard called to rescue persons stuck in mud north of Southport Pier
Report of a juvenile stuck in the mud north of the pier. Our flank teams from HM Coastguard Crosby and HM Coastguard Lytham were also tasked to attend, but were stood down while still travelling as the casualty had reportedly freed themselves. The casualty had been stuck for almost 30 minutes before calling the Coastguard.
On arrival we discovered that two friends of the casualty had gone to help him, and had almost become trapped as well.
Apart from being caked in mud, the three were in good health. Words of advice were given in relation to the incident.
If you become trapped in mud, stop. Spread your weight to help stop sinking further, and dial 999, or wave and shout for help. If you see somebody trapped, do not go to assist. You may get stuck yourself and become another rescue. Dial 999, ask for the Coastguard.
