The new ferry is being designed and constructed on the banks of the River Mersey by Birkenhead shipbuilder Cammell Laird.

Work is well underway and here’s your chance to get a sneak peek at the new Mersey Ferry.

Due to arrive on the water in 2026, the new Ferry offers stylish interiors and bright, open plan spaces, the fully accessible Ferry will be the perfect way to explore the City Region and take in the unrivalled views the Mersey Ferry offers.

The new plans honour the rich heritage of the Mersey Ferries, with the exterior design retaining the traditional livery and colours of the historic fleet, while the interiors boast a stylish, contemporary theme. The purpose-built, fully accessible vessel will feature flexible event spaces as well as bars and bike storage. With warm tones and thick fabrics, it will offer a new level of comfort for the world-famous Mersey Ferries while securing the service for future generations.

If you’d like to find out more about the new boat – including how many dinosaurs it would take to tip the scales, head down to Seacombe Terminal where visitors will be treated to a display dedicated to the build of the Ferry, and will be updated regularly throughout the project lifetime.
