Local Lib Dems call for action on Hesketh Centre disrepair

Cambridge Ward councillors are continuing to press for action over concerns for the Hesketh Centre on Albert Road which has long lain dormant and is falling into an increasing state of disrepair.

The councillors have contacted  Sefton Planning to learn why there is a delay in the conversion of the former centre into housing.

“Last year a planning application was submitted to demolish the existing building and build 22 houses and a block containing 8 apartments and the development is to be finished with parking and landscaped grounds,” explained Councillor Mike Sammon.

“The application DC/2025/01569 is still under consideration by the council who are working with the developer to bring forward a development that complies with planning policy. We believe there are a couple of issues to be resolved and then the development will go ahead.”

And Councillor Leo Evans said: “We have recently had some worrying complaints that the site is being vandalised and that youngsters are gaining access to the dangerous building. We’ve met the police and asked them to investigate.”

Councillor Pat Keith said : “ Albert Road is a lovely tree-lined road and this dilapidated building is not only a dangerous eyesore but a blight on the area. So the sooner it’s developed and transformed with much needed homes the better.”
