Erin Harvey today launched her campaign to be the next Lib Dem MP for Southport.

Her priorities for our town are:

·       Revitalising our town centre – making it an attractive place for residents, tourists and businesses through campaigning for business rate reform, re-opening the pier, improving transport links and celebrating local heritage.

·       Harnessing green energy to boost our local economy – using our natural wind and water resources to open up investment and cleaning and protecting our waterways.

·       Helping people access GP appointments, improving healthcare and fighting for social care reform.

At a packed meeting at Lib Dem Headquarters in Southport Erin said: “It’s clear that the Tories are facing defeat nationally and that the choice in Southport is between Lib Dem and Labour.

“I have been out on the doorsteps talking to people and local people are fed up with the empty platitudes and lack of ambition for our area from both main parties. I live here with my family and I am invested in harnessing Southport’s natural advantages to make it a vibrant place, fit for tomorrow.

“In my professional life I have worked in international diplomacy and I am used to standing up for what I believe in and helping others. I have an independent mind and will follow in the footsteps of Southport’s previous Lib Dem MP’s.

Former Lib Dem MP and now Lib Dem group council leader, John Pugh, said: “Labour run Sefton Council don’t understand what Southport needs and it constantly feels like we our town is an afterthought to Bootle. The Tory MP has consistently voted with a government that has presided over economic mismanagement and political chaos that has had a direct impact on residents.

“There is now a chance to vote for a fresh voice in Erin Harvey who is invested in the future of this area, unlike the candidates from the two main parties.”
