Liverpool fans have been slammed for booing the national anthem before their match against Brentford.

The national anthem has been played at all Premier League matches today in recognition of the coronation of King Charles III, which happened a few hours ago. Boos rang around Anfield before the anthem had even started as their players lined up around the centre-circle.

As the national anthem started, boos drowned out the theme, and chants of "Liverpool" were audible around the stadium. As soon as the anthem had finished, "You'll Never Walk Alone" was blasted out of the speakers, and the crowd began to sing along.

Reds fans were slammed online by rival supporters: "Liverpool fans booing the national anthem and they wonder why everyone dislikes them!"

"The Liverpool fans booing the national anthem lacks class and respect," a second added. While a third tweeted: "Liverpool fans booing the national anthem... thanks for showing your true colours!"

"I don't think I've heard any group of fans boo anything or anyone louder than the Liverpool fans booing the national anthem. I could barely even hear it," a fourth tweeted. And another added: "Disgraceful from Liverpool fans. Disgraceful."
