Firefighters tackle sand-dune fire off Thornbeck Avenue, Hightown
Firefighters tackled a fire involving sand dunes off Thornbeck Avenue, Hightown, overnight.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) was alerted at 8.12pm on Tuesday 14 July. The first crews arrived ten minutes later, at 8.22pm.
Three fire engines attended at the height of the incident. Firefighters used two high-pressure hose-reel jets and beaters to tackle the flames.
The fire was extinguished at 10.44pm, but MFRS crews and relief crews remained at the scene overnight to check for hotspots and damp down the affected area.
Firefighters were still at the location on Wednesday morning to make the scene safe.
