HM Coastguard Southport called to assist Air Ambulance
Requested to assist North West Air Ambulance and North West Ambulance Service with a casualty extraction from the dunes at Ainsdale, adjacent to Hillside Golf Links.
Our flank team HM Coastguard Crosby were also tasked, and on arrival we located the air ambulance paramedic and casualty (who had fallen and was unable to walk), and formulated a plan for safe extraction.
Using our basket stretcher we transported the casualty through some awkward terrain (narrow sandy paths, climbs and dips, undergrowth and a fence) out onto the 16th tee where the air ambulance was waiting.
The casualty was transfered into the helicopter and airlifted out to meet with a land ambulance, and taken to hospital.
We are grateful to staff from the Golf Links, and members of the public who were keen to assist us when getting the stretcher over the fence.
Coastguard Rescue Teams are specially trained in various types of casualty extractions, and are often called on by our partner emergency services to assist them.
