Longridge Town 0 Southport 1. Into The Final

match repoer

A goal direct from a corner in the 35th minute scored by Danny Lloyd was the only goal of the game and enough to see Southport through to the April final at Leyland against Bacup Borough.

Southport hit the woodwork twice in the first half and wasted three other good chances to put the tie to bed in that first half but failed to capitalise on the first half pressure.

It was a different story on the second period with Longridge coming close on a number of occasions and only the excellence of Chris Renshaw in the Southport goal kept the scoreline blank for the home side.

Renshaw topped off a fine performance with an 80th minute penalty save after a pen had been awarded which nobody knew what it was for but after consulting with his assistant referee the ref pointed to the spot.

Job done for Southport but every credit must go to Longridge who deserved a draw out of the game and we wish them well for the rest of the season.
