Merseyside Police arrest man on Liverpool Road in Southport

Officers from Merseyside Police raced to Liverpool Road in Southport just before 2.00 pm today. They surrounded an elderly-looking man who was carrying a backpack and was dressed in shabby clothes.

The man was placed against a wall with his arms and legs spread wide and thoroughly searched by one of the officers wearing protective gloves. The man's bag and what appeared to be his wallet were also searched.

Eventually, the man was placed in a van and taken away.

Police have been approached for information as to what the man has done. There were no witnesses at the scene to ask.
