Open champion at Royal Birkdale to receive USD 3.2m

The winner of The 154th Open at Royal Birkdale will receive USD 3.2 million from a total prize fund of USD 17.75 million.

The Open returns to the Sefton coast from 12 to 19 July 2026. Royal Birkdale will host the Championship for the 11th time, with championship play running from Thursday 16 July to Sunday 19 July.

Prize money is payable only to professional golfers. The published breakdown covers the 70 qualifying places:

If more than 70 professional golfers qualify for the final two rounds, additional prize money will be added. The payment will reduce by USD 125 for each qualifying place above 70, down to a minimum of USD 39,450.

Professional golfers who miss the cut will also receive payment. The leading 10 non-qualifiers and ties will receive USD 12,900 each, followed by USD 10,750 for the next 20 non-qualifiers and ties. The remaining non-qualifiers and ties will receive USD 9,100.
