Person found dead on the Southport to Wigan line at New Lane near Burscough

British Transport Police issued a statement.

Officers were called to New Lane station at 1.42pm on Sunday 26th September following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are currently working to establish the full circumstances behind their death."
