Person hit by train last night on the Southport to Hunts Cross line close to Freshfield station

Services were suspended on the Southport to Hunts Cross line after a person was hit by a train.The incident occurred at about 20.30. The line was closed in both directions.

Police and ambulance services were called to the incident.

Merseyrail tweeted: "Due to a person sadly being hit by a train in the Freshfield area, services on the Southport line are disrupted.

A rail replacement bus service was put in place at 21.30

The identity and condition of the person  hit by the train is not known
