Police finally catch drug dealer who rammed a Police vehicle
On 3rd August 2022 the driver of a Vauxhall Insignia failed to stop for Southport Local Policing Team Officers, conducting an operation into ‘county lines’ drug dealing in Southport. In order to evade officers, the driver rammed the Police van and caused damage before making off and abandoning the vehicle just over the border into Lancashire. When searched the vehicle was found to contain an amount of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
In the weeks following, enquiries and investigations led to the driver and his home address being identified.
On Wednesday 5th October a male suspect from Lancashire was arrested for failing to stop for police, dangerous driving (rammed Police car), and possession of class ‘B’ drugs. Following a search of his home address, approximately £20,000 of class B drugs were recovered plus £5k in cash, along with drug paraphernalia and a large 2ft 'zombie knife'.
The male was further arrested on suspicion of Possession of Cannabis with Intent to supply, Possession of Criminal Property, and Possession of an offensive weapon.
Sgt Leach from Southport Local Policing states “We will continue to work to combat cross border crime. This result sends a message to those who consider committing cross border crime, that causing misery and harm to our communities will be dealt with robustly.”
