Police have confirmed that the body found on the Southport to Wigan line was a 15 year old girl

A body found on railway line near Southport has been confirmed to be that of a 15-year-old girl.

She was confirmed as dead at the scene by paramedics who attended the scene .

A BTP spokesperson said “Officers were called to New Lane Station in between Southport and Burscough at 1.42pm on 26 September following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended however sadly a 15-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Her family have been informed.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
