Scarborough 1 Southport 2. Match report
A fantastic win on the road for the travelling Sandgrounders coming away with a 2-1 victory.
It was backs to the wall in the closing 15 minutes but resolute defending, excellent goalkeeping and a slice of luck saw the three points coming back to Southport.
As was the case last week with South Shields, Scarborough had a lot of the ball but couldnt get it in the goal.
Playing some neat football at times Southport looked fairly comfortable. The opening goal had a bit of good fortune to it with the ball richocheting off a Scarborough defender to Luke Burgess who looked offside but with the ball coming off a Boro player he coolly slotted the ball home in the 29th minute.
1-0 at half time and all the talk was about it being against the run of play but we were in the lead.
A Danny Lloyd corner was powerfully headed home by Nat Knight-Percival in the 59th minute to send the healthy away following into raptures.
Marcus Carver had a great chance to make it 3-0 just after but fired over the bar with only the ‘keeper to beat.
The Scarborough pressure increased and they were rewarded with a goal in the 77th minute.
Southport’s fight and great team spirit was at its best and whilst there were several heart stopping moments and the final whistle seemed to take forever to come but the win was in the bank.
We have won our last three games on the road to Scarborough, a lucky ground indeed!
