At their meeting today, Sefton Council’s Cabinet members agreed to use almost £370,000 of new grant funding to support local businesses.

As well as direct support, the £369,919 from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority’s Local Growth Fund to help people start new companies. It will also be used to bring new investment into the Borough.

InvestSefton, the Council’s business support team, will use the funding to provide one-to-one advice for businesses. This will include expert help in areas such as marketing and planning, and workshops on key topics.

The funding will also be used to support for people who want to start their own business. Delivered by Merseyside Expanding Horizons and Safe Regeneration, this includes access to local hubs like The Big Onion in Bootle and Southport.

Businesses in Sefton will be able to get help from specialists to improve how they sell, grow and manage their work. And there will be support for companies looking to invest in the Borough.

Cllr Paulette Lappin, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Skills and Economy said:
“This funding will enable our InvestSefton team to build on a programme that has already helped more than 150 existing businesses and supported the creation of over 80 new ones.

“Supporting smaller businesses to grow and new ones to get established means we can bring new jobs and other benefits for local people.”

The funding will run until March 2027 and will make sure support for businesses continues beyond the end of the previous national funding programme.
