Serious Collision in Southport Leads to Drug Driving Arrest

Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious collision in Southport last night.

At around 5.20pm on Tuesday 20 January, we received a report of a collision involving a black Range Rover and a male pedestrian on the A565 Lulworth Road, between Weld Road and Oxford Road.

A 44-year-old man from Southport was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug driving. He has since been released under investigation pending further inquiries.

The pedestrian, aged in his 80s, was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, the Lead Investigating Officer from Merseyside Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "Although we have made an arrest, I am keeping an open mind as to the circumstance of this collision and we are still appealing for witnesses to come forward to assist our ongoing investigation.

“Collisions on the road can cause devastating consequences for those involved and it is our absolute priority to get answers for the man involved and his family.

“To that end if you witnessed this collision, the build up to it or have any other information, please get in touch.

“Similarly, if you live locally and have CCTV cameras fitted or were in the area of Lulworth Road at the time, please check your front and rear dash cameras on your vehicle. They can often record vital evidence that you may be totally unaware of. This could be crucial to our investigation.”
