Serious incident at the Monument in Southport. Fire service called to remove weeds
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service were called to the Monument in Southport this afternoon ahead of the visit of the Princess Royal tomorrow. A fire engine with its blue lights flashing was on the scene as firefighters cordoned off the area.
A ladder was placed against the Monument and a firefighter in complete kit climbed up and removed a weed growing out of the masonry.
One lady who was watching on said she paid £60 last week to have her gutters cleaned. Shaking her head in disbelief she muttered next time I will call the Fire service.
