A very good all round performance from front to back saw Southport beat National League Oldham Athletic 2-0.

It didn’t start well with Oldham awarded a penalty after just 3 minutes which was superbly saved by the returning Chris Renshaw in goal. Renshaw was busy in the early minutes and make a tremendous double save in the 8th minute to keep the scoreline blank.

After a good opening period for the visitors Southport came more into the game and were rewarded with a fine goal from Tunde Owolabi who finished off a fine move to make it 1-0.

Southport had played some very good football knocking the ball around well which drew warm applause from the home crowd.

The second half started slowly but it was the home side who created a number of chances before Sam Minihan increased the lead, slotting home from 12 yards.

Another good workout for the lads who now travel to Cliftonville for a game on Saturday before returning to The Big Help Stadium next Tuesday when Morecambe are our visitors.
