Southport 4 Bishop's Stortford 1
Just the sixth home league win comes at a crucial time as Port move up to 15th with just 5 games left.
The windy conditions played a part in the opening stages of the game with both sides struggling to create chances early on.
Bennett’s header in the 13th minute being the highlight of the early proceedings, resulting in a goalline clearance for the visitors, but it was Southport who opened the scoring after Hmami’s half-volley nestled into the corner in the 37th minute.
Port raised their tails after taking the lead adding two goals in quick succession, after clever thinking by Carver made it two before Bennett at the back post made it three on the stroke of half time.
The home side started the second half in the same manner as they ended the second, but a flurry of chances came and went before the visitors claimed what was merely a consolation goal with 15 minutes to play after a volley by Charles beat McMillan in goal.
With the clock ticking down Southport had one final chance in added time and as the ball landed at Philliskirk’s feet, the midfielder made no mistake in firing past the keeper scoring his first for the club and making it 4-1 on the night.
The attention turns to Friday now as an away trip to Farsley Celtic awaits, which has a kick off time of 3pm.
