Southport Celebrates First Home Win Against Scarborough with 3-1 Victory
Southport’s first home win, first goals at home and first points after an emphatic 3-1 performance against Scarborough Athletic.
Goals have been hard to come by so far this season but three of the best came our way in this game.
It was a slow start by both sides and Scarborough came the closest to scoring through the lively Mulhern but Chris Renshaw in the Southport goal made a fine save to thwart the former Southport player.
Marcus Carver opened the scoring on 33 minutes with a fine finish from the edge of the box. It was his 20th league goal for the club and from then on it was one way traffic.
Niall Watson having his best game in a Southport shirt for a long time coolly finished two minutes later to make it 2-0 at the break.
Southport gave a debut to Mikey O’Neill, signed on loan earlier in the day from Preston and he was having a good game and looks a useful acquisition just in behind the front line.
It was over as a conterst in the 58th minute when Watson bagged his second goal rounding the ‘keeper after some slack defensive play by the visitors.
Mulhern did pull one back with a fine strike from distance in the 78th minute to give the viistors a glimmer of hope but Southport were not to be denied a home win that was welcome and celebrated by the players, manager and fans at the end of the game.
