Southport Clings onto Lead for a Crucial Victory Over Scarborough

tv

A disappointing display on Saturday was quickly forgotten after an excellent 1-0 win at Scarborough a team witn one of te best home records in National North.

The first 60- minutes saw a dominant Southport side playing as well as we have played all season and if only the finishing had matched the approach play we could have been out of sight.

As it was it took a looping Tyler Walton header from a Jack Doyle cross in the 47th minute to give us the lead, a lead we clung on to until the end.

It wasnt without its scares with the home side twice hitting the woodwork with a late flurry ofg chances and Chris Renshaw was in excellent form in the Southport goal and repelled all that was thrown at him.

Danny Lloyd had hit the bar with a fine free kick in the first half and we had a goal chalked off for offside in the second period. The only down side of the evening was the red card to Luke Burgess for what appeared to be a tangle with a Scarboorugh player. It was surprising that both players didn’t receive the same punishment but with the defence and keeper in such good form it was a night when things went right and a very welcome three points returned to Lancashire.
