Southport FC Secure Re-signing of Finlay Heath and Luke Burgess for New Season

Southport FC can today confirm that both Finlay Heath and Luke Burgess have re-signed with the club, keeping both at the Big Help Stadium.

Luke, a versatile and talented midfielder has established himself as a key player under manager Jim Bentley whilst Finlay has shown his ability and tenacity under successive managers since joining the club on an initial loan deal in 2022.

Confirming the news today, Jim Bentley had the following to say:

“Fin is a good young player who has good potential. He’s had a taste of first team action now and knows what it takes to play at this level regularly and did quite well overall. He had a loan spell and again, that is something we have discussed with Fin when we plan his pathway for the future to get him playing and improving as a player & a person. He’s a good, honest, local kid and one for the future for SFC, it’s a big season for him and hopefully he continues to progress.”

“I’m happy Luke is back on board for the coming season. He’s showed glimpses of his ability and had some strong games last season but overall, he didn’t hit the heights I know he can and Luke agrees with me after a positive conversation. He had a very stop-start time when he came to the club, he had a few issues on and off the field which wasn’t helped either with 2 suspensions.

He’s got great talent, trains well and is a decent lad who wants it to work for us both at Southport FC. It’s a testament to him and shows how determined he is to become a success that he has accepted a 6-month deal, a chance to have a good pre-season which he missed last season and an opportunity to prove his worth. It’s a big season for him and I’m hoping Luke comes good, I certainly have the confidence in him because I’ve seen it in him before.”
