Southport FC Strengthens Backroom Team with Appointment of Renowned Coach Alan Morgan

Southport FC are thrilled to announce the appointment of Alan Morgan who will be joining Jim Bentley’s backroom staff for the 24/25 season. 

Former Tranmere Rovers and Wales u21 star Alan Morgan has today been appointed to the first team coaching staff at Southport Football Club, joining Manager Jim Bentley and Assistant Manager Andy Burgess’ backroom staff. Alan Morgan brings a wealth of experience to the club, as a player Alan reached the 2000 League Cup Final with Tranmere Rovers during a 10-year spell at the Superwhites before embarking on a successful managerial career with Llandudno FC and Colwyn Bay.

 Upon his appointment, Alan had the following to say: ““I am really excited to be joining Southport and working with this incredibly talented group of players. Myself and Jim have a strong working relationship and I can’t wait to bring my experience in coaching and player development to support Southport Football Club’s ambitious plans for the future.”

 Welcoming Alan to the club, Jim Bentley said: “Alan is a good friend of mine and good football man who I know very well going back to our time together at Morecambe. He’s a dedicated coach who has a vast experience at different levels of the game. He’s currently employed at Tranmere Rovers where he has held numerous roles with the coaching set up and has over the years tied this in whilst coaching at Marine, Vauxhalls Motors and currently Bootle, experiencing plenty of success over the past few seasons. He has also managed / coached in Welsh football and again, has a strong record in Wales. He’s hard working, honest and a very well-respected coach within the game. Myself and Andy are looking forward to working with him at Southport FC.”

 First Team Assistant Manager Andy Burgess added: “We are delighted with Alan’s appointment and I am thrilled to welcome him to the backroom team at Southport. Alan’s passion, work ethic and tactical nous will be invaluable as we prepare for the upcoming season. We now have a terrifically strong backroom team in place and I’m certain the players will benefit massively from the culture of continuous improvement we have developed at the club”.
