Southport Local Policing Team Conduct Extensive Patrols in Rural Areas

Southport Local Policing Team working with the Merseyside Rural, Wildlife and Heritage Crime Team have been out responding to intelligence, reports of crime and anti-social behaviour in the rural areas of Sefton and the Lancashire border.


One part of the operation was to tackle illegal hunting, poaching and wildlife crime. Community intelligence and engagement is helping us to close the net on this crime type. Whilst out proactively patrolling, one illegal fisherman was discovered who was dealt with for the offence of theft of fish, under The Salmon and Fresh Waters Fishery Act. Reports of illegal hunting with dogs and birds of prey are being further investigated.
Fly tipping areas were targeted and further intelligence gained.
We also visited farms and rural businesses and crime prevention advice given.


Following complaints of illegal and antisocial motorcycle/quad use. The Cheshire Lines were patrolled extensively by officers. The People out walking, cycling and riding horses were pleased to see our teams and felt that the ongoing police action in this area from both Merseyside and Lancashire is making a positive difference.
