Southport MP comments on Prime Ministers support for his campaign to get the Pier reopened

I am delighted to hear the Prime Minister express his strong support for my campaign to get Sefton Council to fix Southport Pier, and to reopen our town’s vital tourist attraction as soon as possible.

It is completely wrong for Sefton Council to keep business owners in the dark over the future of the Pier, and to not provide any further information on what can be done to support them during this extended period. It is imperative that our town and fantastic tourist economy is treated with the respect it deserves, and that the progress of our £37.5 million Town Deal is not hindered by the Council’s inaction on this vital cultural and economic asset.

I have requested to meet with Government Ministers to explore further avenues of funding for the Pier, and will continue to do all I can to fix this Council-managed wrong.
