Southport MP Patrick Hurley Invites Residents to Take Part in UK Parliament Week
Patrick Hurley MP is inviting everyone in Southport to get involved in UK Parliament Week (UKPW), an annual event spreading the word about what Parliament is, what it does and how you can get involved. It’s a great way to find out new things about UK Parliament or be reminded of things you might’ve forgotten!
UKPW is taking place from 18-24 November.
Youth groups, community organisations and schools in constituencies across the United Kingdom have already signed up to join in this year. Last year over 1.6 million people took part in every nation and region of the UK, and many countries all over the world.
Everyone who signs up for UK Parliament Week will get a free kit with resources, including a booklet (with information and activity ideas tailored for youth groups, primary and secondary schools, or adults), a ballot box, bunting and a unique Give Way card game. As well as exploring UK Parliament and ways to get involved, this year’s UKPW throws a spotlight on the various roles and people who help to keep our Parliament running.
Patrick Hurley MP said:
“As the MP for Southport, I’m encouraging people in my constituency to sign up for UK Parliament Week 2024. This is a fantastic opportunity to understand how parliament functions and the individuals who operate within it. If you want to get involved, please sign up using the link above.
I will be hosting an online Q&A session for secondary schools in the area, where you can ask questions about the workings of parliament, my experience as a new MP, and my responsibilities as your local MP. I have also invited local primary schools to send in any questions they would like me to answer during UK parliament week.”
If you are part of a local school, college, or youth group, please contact my office if you would like to participate in any of our UK Parliament Week activities.”
Fran Jeens, Head of Education and Engagement at UK Parliament, said: “UK Parliament Week is a great opportunity for people of all ages to get informed about how they can engage with UK Parliament to make a difference. Every year it’s fantastic to see so many people actively take part in UK Parliament Week. We look forward to lots of UKPW activities taking place in Southport”
