Southport MP Seeks Transparency from Sefton Council on Pier Closure
Southport MP commented
While Sefton Council have now released the structural surveys relating to Southport Pier, this comes after the final issue of the structural inspection was revised, following comments made by Sefton Council as the client.
The people of Southport, and the businesses directly impacted by the closure of the pier, deserve full transparency from Sefton Council regarding the condition of the pier and the reasons behind the ongoing closure.
As such, I am making immediate further enquiries on the nature of the revision of the report, and to obtain an explanation on why this may have delayed the publication of the surveys by nearly a month.
Throughout this period I have remained in contact with my colleagues in the Department for Levelling Up, Housing, and Communities and I am following up on ongoing discussions with Historic England and the National Lottery Heritage Fund. I will continue doing all I can to ensure that the necessary funding is made available for this vital asset to our town.
