Patrick Hurley has committed to support Football Families for Justice (FFJ) campaign.

Football Families for Justice is led by campaigners that have seen their loved ones suffer from neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs) linked to their football careers and is advocating for justice for these players and their families.

Former footballers are diagnosed with neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs) at rates four to five times higher than the national average.

Football players at all levels from Sunday leagues to the Champions League are at risk of developing neurodegenerative diseases because of damage caused from repeatedly heading the ball in training.

Patrick Hurley said “Southport is home to footballers who have played at the very highest level - household names that have played for Liverpool and represented their country before it became the big business that it is today. I know that they are worried about their future, facing the devastating reality that their career has put them at risk of needing constant care, with very little support available to help them or their families cover the costs”

The MP for Southport joins Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram, Mayor Andy Burnham and prominent voices in the game, calling on the football industry to allocate a fraction of its vast resources to provide care, respect, and financial assistance for affected players and their families.
