Southport's Economy Suffering Under Labour, Claims Conservative Spokesperson

Labour isn’t working for Southport, say Southport Conservatives
Parliamentary Spokesperson for Southport Conservatives, Councillor Mike Prendergast, has criticised the recent Spring Statement and warned that Southport’s local economy will continue to suffer under Labour.
Mike Prendergast said, “Labour promised growth, but all they’ve delivered is doom and gloom while trashing the country’s finances. Growth forecasts have been halved to 1%, yet when they took office, growth levels were amongst the highest in the G7, unemployment was low and inflation was back under control.”
“Labour have killed the growth they inherited, massively increased taxes, borrowed more and put our economic security at risk with their dreadful running of our economy.”
“Southport and the Northern Parishes are already suffering and local businesses have been hit with massive National Insurance increases.”
“Labour don’t know how to run the economy and seem genuinely surprised that talking down the economy for the last 8 months, hiking up taxes and borrowing more has had a negative effect on the economy.“
“As a town which relies on hospitality, leisure and tourism, the constant doom and gloom from Labour is hitting consumer confidence, meaning people spend less on exactly the kind of activities that keeps our town going. In the Northern Parishes, farmers still have the Family Farm Tax to contend with, on top of the National Insurance increases.”
“Let’s be clear, all of this is as a result of the terrible economic and political choices made by Labour. No amount of obfuscation by Rachel Reeves and blaming Trump, tariffs, Ukraine and the Tories can hide the fact that economic growth has tanked because of Labour.”
“We need to get our economy back on track, yet the direction we are going at the moment it seems as if taxes will be going up again in the Autumn. The way to economic prosperity and improving living standards is to grow our economy and lower taxes to encourage businesses to hire and invest.”
“Our country deserves a government that has ambition for Britain and Southport deserves better than what is being delivered by Labour.”
