Buxton equaliser denies Southport victory in added time

Southport were held to a 1-1 draw by Buxton at Haig Avenue on Saturday, August 15, after the visitors scored in the 92nd minute.

Malakai McKenzie put the Sandgrounders ahead in the 18th minute with a trademark finish, and Southport took that advantage into half time.

Buxton goalkeeper Evans produced an excellent save from Danny Lloyd in the 47th minute, keeping the score at 1-0. Southport were looking comfortable, but the match changed midway through the second half when Lloyd was shown a straight red card for a poor challenge.

Southport were forced to defend with ten men for the remainder of the game. Goalkeeper Solomon Honor made a series of important saves as Buxton pressed for an equaliser, but the visitors eventually scored in added time to take a share of the points.

Sam Minihan was named the sponsors’ man of the match in front of an attendance of 1,236.
