Southport beaten 2-0 at Worksop Town after second-half goals
Southport lost 2-0 at Worksop Town on Saturday, September 12, three days after their 2-1 win over Morecambe.
Worksop were the better side overall and deserved the points, although Southport remained level at half-time after playing into a strong wind.
Southport’s best first-half chance came after 22 minutes, when Jordan Slew’s effort was well saved by the home goalkeeper. Adam Moseley also went close in added time.
Worksop had created four good openings before the break, but poor finishing and several saves from Douglass Lukjanciks kept the score at 0-0.
Southport had the benefit of the wind in the second half, but Worksop took the lead three minutes after the restart, according to the match report, when Ryan Viggers took advantage of a mistake in the visitors’ defence.
The hosts then put Southport under sustained pressure. Lukjanciks made a number of important saves, but Vaughan Redford beat him again on 60 minutes to double Worksop’s lead.
Malakai McKenzie nearly pulled one back in second-half added time, only for his effort to be tipped around the post. It was another away game without a goal for Southport.
