Southport fell to a 2-1 defeat against AFC Telford United at Haig Avenue on Saturday, 31 October, despite taking an early lead in Cal McIntyre’s first match in charge.

The Sandgrounders went ahead after five minutes when Sol Solomon finished well. Southport looked confident in the opening stages, but Telford gradually grew into the game.

Goalkeeper Douglass Lukjanciks made several important saves to keep Southport in front. The visitors equalised after 33 minutes when a deflection wrong-footed the Southport goalkeeper. The goal was credited to Alexander Fletcher.

Telford had earlier threatened to take the lead after being awarded a free-kick inside the Southport penalty area. Southport defended the situation on the line and survived the danger.

The visitors completed the turnaround after 68 minutes. Louis Moult cut inside and curled a fine finish beyond Lukjanciks to make it 2-1.

Southport struggled to create clear openings after that, although substitute Daniel Ogwuru came close in stoppage time when he missed with a header from close range.

There was further frustration in added time when Regan Griffiths was sent off. The attendance at Haig Avenue was 1,290.
