Southport host Morecambe at Haig Avenue after Neil Danns steps down
Southport host Morecambe at Haig Avenue on Tuesday, September 8, in the National League North. Kick-off is at 7.45pm, and tickets are available online until the match starts.
It will be Southport’s first game under caretaker manager Mark Duffy, following Neil Danns’ decision to step down on Sunday, September 6. Danns left after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Spalding United, Southport’s third consecutive loss.
Duffy has previously worked alongside Danns and made 103 appearances for Southport. He will take charge as the club considers its next steps.
Morecambe have won their last three matches after a difficult start to the campaign. Their run includes Saturday’s 4-0 home victory over Buxton and has lifted them from the bottom of the table to 10th.
The fixture renews a meeting that has been absent for almost 20 years. The sides last played each other during the 2006-07 season, when Morecambe won promotion to the Football League.
Older Southport supporters will remember a competitive rivalry between the clubs. Southport and Morecambe met 66 times from the 1978-79 season through to 2006-07.
Tuesday’s match is Southport’s eighth league fixture of the 2026-27 season.
