Stray Cat and Her Newborn Kittens Find Hope at Woodlands Animal Sanctuary

If you follow the story of Woodlands Animal Sanctuary you may have seen on their socials the kittens who have recently found their way into their loving arms.  In the last few days, they have welcomed 8 new cats into their care.

Martha, who had been found as a stray, living at the bottom of a garden, was heavily pregnant, and was struggling to thrive after fighting to survive the harsh winter living rough.  On admittance the team were very concerned about her, due to her laboured breathing.  Although heavily pregnant, she clung onto her babies an extra couple of days, the team suspect, due to the stress of her change in environments.  She has now however, given birth to 5 beautiful, apparently healthy kittens.  It is now very clear to see, though, just how tough life has been for Martha.  With her no longer bearing the weight of her babies, the team are saddened to see just how underweight Martha is.  Obviously, a fighter, the team are monitoring both her and her kittens closely to ensure they are thriving as well as possible.

The week then started bright and early, at 7:30 on Monday, when two orphaned kittens, found at a local factory, were rescued in conjunction with Jasper’s Cats.  Estimated at being around 3 weeks old, siblings Fred & Whilma are also severely underweight.  To give you an idea, Whilma at 3 weeks old, is weighing less that Martha’s newborn kittens!  These babies are being closely monitored and hand fed around the clock, every 3 hours, to ensure they receive the right amount of milk that their young bodies need and can tolerate.

Their new goat family are settling in well too, with both kids now feeding really well and the team confident enough with them all, to be planning the weaning process.  The vet has been out to them again, but this time, for a routine visit, which saw all the goats getting their feed trimmed and vaccinated.

Woodlands has some further good news to share; when they rescued Ana, Elsa and Olaf, they had to leave behind a further 29 goats.  However, in collaboration with quite a few other rescues, Woodlands are pleased to be able to say that homes have now been found for all 29 goats.  This is an achievement they are really proud of, and a clear sign of what can be achieved when charities work together.  Woodland does not have the capacity to take all 32 goats, they did however, have the drive and dedication to see that all 32 found suitable homes.  On 30th April Woodlands will co-ordinate the distribution of the remaining 29 goats to their new homes.
