Trust signs Dying to Work Charter.Formerly: St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Southport & Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust

The Trust has added its name to a charter aimed at helping employees who become terminally ill at work.

The charter is part of the TUC’s wider Dying to Work campaign and sets out an agreed way in which employees will be supported, protected and guided throughout their employment following a terminal diagnosis.

Anthony Lockhart is Chair of the Staff Side group of unions which supports staff. He said: “It’s only right we do our best to support and protect terminally ill colleagues – striving to add to their peace of mind and not to their stress.’’

Dying to Work was set up by the TUC following the case of Jacci Woodcook, a 58-year-old sales manager from Derbyshire, who was forced out of her job after being diagnosed with terminal breast cancer. In the absence of legislative protection, the TUC campaign asks employers to sign up to its voluntary charter to stop cases like Jacci’s happening in the future.
