Two arrested after report males acted suspiciously outside school in Formby

Police have made two arrests after reports two males were acting suspiciously outside a high school in Formby.
Officers were called to The Range High School just before 2pm where it was reported two males had been seen acting suspiciously outside the school.
The males, described as wearing black clothes, baseball caps and balaclavas, then made off on foot towards Range Lane.
One of the males was detained on Range Lane with the assistance of a Police Dog, and one was detained on Burwell Avenue by two off duty police officers.
Both males were searched and a wrench has been seized. A search of the area is ongoing and CCTV opportunities are being explored.
Two 15-year-old males, from Hightown and Ainsdale, were arrested on suspicion of Possession of an offensive weapon; Possession of a Class B controlled drug; and Causing a disturbance on a school premises.
Detective Inspector Gavin Mulcahy said: “We understand the concern and distress that this incident has caused for pupils, parents, carers and staff. The two males were swiftly identified and detained by officers, supported by a Police Dog and off-duty officers.
“The incident will now thoroughly investigated and we are working closely with the school to offer reassurance and information. There will be an increased police presence at the school in the coming days, so please speak to our officers and we will communicate any updates when we have them.”
