Update on police activity in Southport this week
This week Neighbourhood Police Officers and PCSO's have continued foot patrol of the town centre. One man was arrested for being drunk and disorderly on Chapel Street. We are aware of concerns over street drinking in the town centre and will be working with town centre partners to address these issues
We continue to work with local homeless services to address an increase in rough sleepers in the town centre. This is a complex issue with no easy fix. Each situation needs to be addressed uniquely. We will find the appropriate response for each individual case.
One of our PCSO's located a car, stolen in Greater Manchester area last month. Another PCSO on foot patrol was handed some keys found on Lord Street. After making a few enquiries, the owner was identified as someone who had attended the Food Festival in Victoria Park and the keys were taken back to their very grateful owner.
Police Officers and PCSO's from Team 3 carried out some open land searches across Southport and Formby. Searches took place at Portland Street field, Bedford Park, Sandbrook Way, Brookdale woodland area, Cambridge Road field, Formby Fields alleyway. During the search at Bedford Park, a knife was located and seized by officers in attendance.
This weekend, the weather forecast is for very hot and sunny weather, which will bring the crowds into Southport. We will have Neighbourhood Police staff at the Fire Station Open day on Saturday, as well as those in duty to cover all the 999 and 101 calls that come in. We will also have Officers on Operation: Beachsafe, to be there if things go wrong on the Sefton Coastline. Please come prepared for the hot weather, with sunscreen and plenty of water, and arrange a meeting point in case anyone in your family/party gets separated from the rest of you.
