Lancashire Fire and Rescue urges England fans to plan a safe journey home
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service is urging England fans to plan how they will get home before tonight’s World Cup semi-final.
England face Argentina in Atlanta at 8pm BST on Wednesday, 15 July, with a place in the final at stake.
The service is asking anyone watching the match with friends or family to avoid driving if they have been drinking. Alternatives include arranging a lift, booking a taxi, using public transport or choosing a designated driver.
It also warns that alcohol can still affect people the following morning. Feeling better after a night out does not necessarily mean it is safe to drive, as alcohol can take time to leave the body.
The Highway Code says people may still be unfit to drive the morning after drinking. The Department for Transport’s THINK! campaign also advises drivers to have no alcohol if they are planning to drive.
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said the priority was keeping drivers, passengers and other road users safe while fans celebrate the result.
Its message ends with: “Come on, England!”
